Inverness City Heritage Trust is an independent organisation that seeks to promote Inverness’s cultural heritage and historic environment.
The objects for which the Trust was established are to promote and encourage, either on its own or in conjunction with others, the conservation, protection and enhancement of the historic, architectural and landscape heritage within Inverness and its environs by any means all for the benefit of the general public now and in the future.
The Trust’s vision for Inverness’s historic environment is that it should be more widely understood and accessible for residents and visitors, sustained in a good state of repair and used as a catalyst for environmental, cultural, economic and social change for the better for all that live in or visit Inverness.

June 2008 - In April 2005, local writer Katherine Stewart, Patron of the Neil Gunn Trust noticed that the plaque commemorating the Highland Author, Neil Gunn, had been removed from the exterior of the former Customs & Excise building in Inverness High Street. It had been erected by the then Inverness District Council to honour the author who worked as Exise Officer during his years in Inverness (1921-38)
On Thursday 4th June 2009, a new plaque commissioned by ICHT and the Neil Gunn Trust was unveiled by Katherine Stewart and Inverness Provost (and ICHT Chair), Jimmy Gray.
July 2009 - To date (30/06/09) the Trust has committed over £1.28M in capital repair grants in the Highland Capital. This figure corresponds to at least £3.2M worth of investment in the built environment in Inverness (based on the majority of grants at 40-50%). It is hoped that Trust will be able to build on this spend as well as contributing towards some larger high profile projects in the coming years.
The Trust is very pleased to announce that we will be supporting the annual Doors Open Day events in Inverness again this year. The first weekend of events will be on Saturday 05 September 2009 with buildings open all across the city. Please check back nearer the time for a full list of participating buildings and opening times.
ICHT are also very excited about our sponsorship of a new award at the Inverness Civic Trust biannual Awards Scheme for 2009. The award will be for excellent in a development or restoration project within the City's Conservation Areas. More details will follow shortly.
